Monthly Recap. We have had two social events in August and September so far. The first was a great Mexican Fiesta social at the home of John and Stephanie Horton with 16 in attendance, plus “Nemo.” The second was a barbeque social hosted by Paul and Sherri Platt on September 1st with 30 in attendance.  These are one of the ways your steering committee has worked to spur additional social interactions for our members. 

Meanwhile, the Lunch-Bunch met at the Spitfire Deli in Winder for a Saturday lunch and socializing on August 18th.

Trip News. We have two trips remaining this year. The first is to Destin, Florida, October 5 – 7, to the annual seafood festival. This trip is hosted by Keeley and Nita Miller.

The final trip of the year will be to Pigeon Forge, November 9 – 11th, to enjoy the beginning of Winterfest. Carolyn Deering is the trip coordinator. If you have not signed up for that trip please give Carolyn a call at 770-321-9380 as soon as possible to put your name of the list. Fly in to the Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge Airport (KGKT) on Friday, visit the Tennessee Museum of Aviation (http://www.tnairmuseum.com/museum.htm), check into the Grand Resort Hotel, and enjoy the Gatlinburg Trolley by taking a relaxing Gatlinburg Winter Magic Trolley Ride of Lights before dinner. Enjoy breakfast on Saturday morning with the group and take the trolley to see “The Christmas Place” for great shopping (go to Christmasplace.com for store coupon and information). We will all have dinner together and enjoy an evening of entertainment. Everyone will be on their own Sunday morning for breakfast and then continue the fun weekend by attending the November Lunch-Bunch at Habersham County, GA (KAJR). Those signing up for the trip will be given instructions on where to call to make their hotel reservation.

Lunch-Bunch News. The next Lunch-Bunch outing will be at on Saturday, September 15th at Pell City (KPLR). Sherri and Paul will have more details in their standard monthly Lunch-Bunch email.

Social Events. This month, we are also planning a social on Saturday, September 29th at Provino’s Italian Restaurant at 6:00 p.m. The address is 440 Earnest Barrett Parkway NW in Kennesaw. RSVP’s are required by 8:00 p.m. Sunday, September 23rd to Carolyn Deering at 770-321-9380. There will be an open menu – separate checks.

Meeting News. Our next official meeting will be on Saturday, November 3rd at 5 pm at one of our old favorites, Petite Auberge. Please get this on your calendars to reserve the evening. Note that this is a change from the original October 27th date in the website calendar. Petite Auberge was not able to accommodate us that evening. We will also be holding our annual election of club officers at that meeting. We have need for new blood in our club steering committee. This will give you an opportunity to put your ideas into practice for improving our club.  We need fresh ideas to keep our organization vibrant. If you would consider serving your fellow club members in any capacity, please call or email me or Jim Turner.  More information on the meeting will be forthcoming.

Membership Directory. Membership directories were distributed at the June picnic. Members who did not attend will have directories mailed to them soon. If anyone sees an error or a needed change, contact Dick Malone. He is keeping the master directory up to date for when we publish the next addition. Additionally, two members were recently approved by the Board of Directors for Life Membership. These are Harold and Helen Zeller.  Also, Evelyn Carter, a previous Life Member, was not listed in the new directory, in error. She has been added to the master copy and will be in the next distributed edition.
