President’s Letter

Monthly Recap.  Our late September social event at Provino’s Italian Restaurant in Marietta on September was a big success. We had our own private room for socializing with 12 members.

Meanwhile, the Lunch-Bunch met at Sammie’s Touch ‘n Go restaurant in Pell City on September 15th.

Trip News. We have completed our trips for 2007. As you know, the trip to Pigeon Forge in November was cancelled. We simply had too few members who indicated interest in the trip to continue the planning.

However, the trip to Destin, Florida, October 5 – 7 was a rousing success. Despite early concerns for the forecasted weather, our 13 intrepid members and guests thoroughly enjoyed the weekend visiting the Destin annual seafood festival. Except for a passing thunderstorm late in the afternoon Saturday, the weather was most cooperative. Our resort hotel was on the beach and provided us with all of the necessities for a relaxing weekend. The trip was hosted by Keeley and Nita Miller who ensured every essential detail was addressed. This will be a great destination to consider for a return trip in the future.

Lunch-Bunch News.  The next Lunch Bunch is scheduled for Saturday, October 20th.  Watch for email from Sherri regarding the time and place.

Meeting News.  Our next meeting will be on Saturday, November 3rd at 5 pm at one of our old favorites, Petite Auberge.  It is very important for all of our members, if at all possible, to attend this meeting as we will also be holding our annual election of club officers.  We also still have need for new blood in our club steering committee. We need fresh ideas to keep our organization vibrant, and becoming a steering committee member would give you an opportunity to put your ideas into practice for improving our club.  If you would consider serving your fellow club members in any capacity, please call or email me or Jim Turner.  See the detailed flyer at the end of this newsletter for more information, including required response dates, location, directions, and much more.

Member News.  As all of you are aware, long-time member Ken Shoup is suffering from Lou Gehrig’s disease at his home in Rome, Georgia. Ken has been active in the Mooney community as a dealer, broker and owner for many years. This month’s edition of the Mooney Aircraft and Pilot Association (MAPA) included an excellent article on Ken’s history and accomplishments. I believe that all of you will want to read it.  I have included it as a link below. You will need Adobe Acrobat to read the file. If you do not already have it on your computer, it is available for download without cost from many websites, including this site and AOPA.
