Monthly Recap.  The November Lunch-Bunch outing was at the Runway Fish House at Cornelia/Habersham County airport (KAJR). Ten aircraft and 22 people attended.  We even had an accidental guest when Paul asked a pilot in the pattern if he was there for the Lunch-Bunch. The pilot replied, “Uh, I guess so.” It turned out he was just visiting Habersham and wandered in at the same time. He was welcomed by the Lunch-Bunch group who invited him to sit with them for lunch.

The weather was perfect for the GA Flyers trip to Dillsboro, North Carolina. Five airplanes flew into Macon County (1A5) where they were crowded in a 15 passenger van. Thankfully, Dennis and Nancy Warren stopped at the airport in their van and helped with the transportation to Dillsboro. Three other couples also came by road bringing the total headcount to 19 adults and 2 children. The group enjoyed a pleasant train ride and afternoon of eating and shopping in Bryson City. The supper at the Jarrett House that evening was excellent.  Well done to trip captain John Horton for making all of the arrangements.  See the photo gallery at http://www.georgiaflyers.org for more photos.

Trip News.  We have completed our trips for the year 2006 and had a variety of exciting adventures. Thanks to all of the trip captains and their helpers for arranging trips to remember. Next year is shaping up to have another array of fun activities with something attractive for each of our members. Your steering committee is busily putting together a great 2007 flying year that you will peak your interest. We will be advertising the trips and taking sign-ups at the kickoff meeting January 21st at the Spaghetti Warehouse in Marietta. More information will come your way via email as the calendar and plans take shape.

Lunch-Bunch News.  Late breaking news flash – due to forecast ceilings along the Georgia coast on December 3rd, the Lunch-Bunch outing has been rescheduled to Sunday, December 10th at Jekyll Island, GA (09J) for Holiday Sunday Brunch at the Jekyll Island Club. This event takes a little more advance notice so if you are planning on attending, please reply ASAP so we can get an early headcount.  Plan to arrive around 10:30 am for the free shuttle to the hotel.  We'll be making several trips so don't worry if you see the shuttle leaving as you are taxiing in.  Last year we had almost 40 people and we busted our space so this year we are trying to make arrangements for us to all be in the same room together.  So, again, your response is important. Send your reservation to lunchbunch@georgiaflyers.org. Also, if you'd be willing to fly plane-less members (some of us may have annuals or maintenance in progress), let Sherri know how many seats you have available.  If you already had a reservation, let Sherri know if you are still planning to attend. If you didn’t or could not go on the 3rd, you are still very welcome. Just let Sherri know at the lunchbunch email address above.

Meeting News.   Our next meeting will be on January 21st at Spaghetti Warehouse on Delk Road in Marietta.  This will be our 2007 kick-off meeting.  The Spaghetti Warehouse is the same location as last year’s kick-off meeting.  We will publicize the 2007 trips and announce other planned activities. So reserve January 21st from 12:30 to 3:30 on your calendars. You won’t want to miss out on the socializing and signing up for the planned trips.

Announcements.  One important date that you need to get on your calendar is February 10, 2007. That is the date for the Valentine’s Day Dinner Dance at the St. Ives Country Club. The event will be in the evening and will replace the Christmas Party that was becoming increasingly difficult to schedule and a conflict for many of our members during the busy holiday season.  While we don’t have firm plans for the event, I can assure you that you will not want to miss it.

Website News.   The next time you are on the website, check out the photo gallery.  Steering committee member John Horton has rearranged the photo galley, monthly adding interesting photos of trips, events, and Lunch-Bunch outings. John posts these so members who were not able to attend the events can see the event through his camera lens. Thanks to John for revitalizing this section of our website.

Meet a Member.  This month, we are featuring our membership committee chairman Keeley Miller and his wife and flying partner, Nita.

Keeley & Nita Miller have been members of the Georgia Flyers for almost two years. They reside in Winston, Georgia where they raise their two sons, Tyler, age 10, and Logan, age 5. They are partners with fellow Georgia Flyers Sam Digiammarino and Brenda Lee in a 1967 Piper Comanche (N9231P). Keeley has accumulated 300 hours flying time and has turned Nita into a proficient right seat flyer, copying clearances, entering  radio frequencies, and also entering squawk codes.

They have enjoyed many Georgia Flyer’s trips as well as many of their own adventures. Their most recent trips have included Destin, Florida and Jekyll Island, Ga. Keeley plans to one day participate in the Cayman Caravan. When not flying Keeley enjoys hunting, fishing, and scuba diving. In her spare time, Nita enjoys cooking, photography, and reading. Usually in the summer you’ll be able to find them at their local baseball field cheering their boys on.

Keeley and Nita invite you to join them this October as they captain their very first Georgia Flyers trip to the annual Seafood Festival in Destin Florida for great food and great times.

As always, if you would like to volunteer to be the subject of my Meet-a-Member article, please contact me or just send me a short bio and a photo.

Happy flying,

Ron Deering
