October NewsletterGeorgia FlyersChairman’s CornerNEXT GEORGIA FLYERS MEETING:Sunday October 23, 2005 (3-6 pm), at the EAA Hangar, Gwinnett County Airport. Doug Johnson will have a special program on the world of Aircraft Insurance after the hurricanes and newer aircraft entering General Aviation. How will it affect our pocketbooks, etc? We will enjoy a light catered meal selected by Linda Johnson. Cost of the meal will be eleven dollars per person. This is the last regular Georgia Flyers Meeting of the year. September Meeting:
GREAT SOUTHEASTERN ALABAMA AIRPORT TOUR. Oct 1-2.Sam DiGiamarrino did it again. What a great time was had by all 19 Flyers who made this years Alabama Air Tour. A little IFR did not slow us down. We were treated to coffee, rolls and donuts at Shelby County Airport where we met a number of local pilots. Next stop was Muscle Shoals where we were fed Pizza, soft drinks, and bottled water. A pair of Chinese YAK trainers joined up with a Russian L-39 Jet Trainer to perform formation flyby’s for our enjoyment. We then proceeded to Enterprise, Al where the FBO treated us to a cookout dinner, and transportation to the Hotel. The next morning our pilots competed in a spot landing contest, won by Doug McKay and Vernon Lemmon. We then departed IFR for Tuskegee Alabama. Our host the Airport manager and a retired Air Force Colonel hosted us at a very nice Buffet Luncheon on the Tuskegee Campus. He told us the story of the Institution, and took us on a tour of the Tuskegee Booker T. Washington Museum. We then visited the Tuskegee Airmen Museum. Madeline Turner won the Poker run before we all departed for home. We were given the VIP treatment by each FBO, and many local pilots. Sam has Tennessee planned for 2006. Popup Day Trips:Checkout your email regularly so you will not miss an opportunity to do exciting one day flying trips to fun places and lunch with Paul and Sherri Platt. They realized those who rent aircraft or have other time limitations, find it difficult to make longer trips. To fill this void they began searching for more opportunities to fly and socialize with Georgia Flyer friends. Already they have had three trips, and after reviewing the weather and finding places to go, you can expect short notice invitations to join them. Great idea Paul and Sherri. TULLAHOMA BEECHCRAFT MUSEUM TRIP:November 11-13th Harold Bost, former Bonanza Society President will lead a trip to Tullahoma for the Beechcraft Museum, Miss Bo Bo’s famous Boarding House and the Jack Daniel Distillery Visit. The deadline for signup for dinner at Miss Bo Bo’s was October 1st. Check with Harold, hbostmail@aol.com. to see if you can still be included. Christmas Party:Our last event for 2005 will be scheduled for Saturday December 3rd at the Petite Auberge Restaurant. This is always a special event and is the time new officers for 2006 are installed. Carolyn Deering, Carol Comer, and Marge Borrello have lots of pleasant surprises for all of us. We have again engaged the same DJ who was so popular at last years party. Will have more details in the November Newsletter on menu and costs per person. Be sure and mark your calendars. It is one time we get to dress up while having a nice evening of socializing, dinner and dancing. Happy Landings Dick Malone, Chairman
