Georgia Flyers

Chairman's Corner

Gilly Smith gave us a great opportunity to share some of his exciting soaring experiences at our Gwinnett County Airport Meeting April 10th. With the airport meeting at the EAA Hangar about a third of those attending flew in. We had a great lineup of Comanche aircraft. Gilly brought his glider and assembled it outside the hangar for us to enjoy a real show and tell exercise. Linda Johnson arranged for a nice catered meal and a good time was had by all. Several members became so interested in soaring they talked to Gilly about scheduling demonstration flights.
Thank you Dick Lyon, for your leadership as a meeting host.
We are happy to see 27 Flyers signed up for the Treasure Cay, Bahamas trip lead by Bob and Marsha Inman Memorial Day weekend. Knowing Bob and Marsha, and the great job they do in leading trips, a great time will be had by all. I wish I could go, but our first grandchild is graduating from high school that Friday night. Have a great trip and we can't wait to view the web page pictures when you return.

We have a very busy schedule of events this summer:

I Just talked with Sheri Platt and there are a few more slots left for the Amelia Island trip they are leading July 8-10. While it is a trip you can drive if you must, Fernandina Beach has a great airport (55J) with four active runways. I know you will not want to miss this trip Sheri and Paul have planned for us. We are staying in the Historic District in the Hampton Inn. After May 24th, all of our block rooms not reserved will be released. Call or email Sheri so you will not be left out. I understand she has a very romantic Moonlight Cruise planned.

Our next meeting is the annual picnic scheduled at Carol Comer and Rick Januszewski's Mallard's Landing Saturday June 18th between 11am and 2pm. For those of you who missed last year's picnic you missed a great time. The club will furnish the charbroiled hamburger, chicken breasts, buns and fixin's, cold drinks, etc. while the call girls will let you know what covered dishes, salads, deserts, etc. members should bring.

If you have not signed up you need to hurry to be among the nice crowd going with Nolan and Nancy Hanson on the August 19-21 trip to Gettysburg. Contact Nolan to get on board.
Sam DiGiamarrino will lead us on the Great Southeastern Air Tour to Alabama this year. You will not want to miss this great event.
In November Harold Bost our own former Bonanza Society President will lead a trip to Tullahoma for the Beechcraft Museum and the Jack Daniel's Distillery visit.

Looks like a fun year to me. Let's all support as many of the events and meetings as possible. I appreciate all the hard work of our Trip Captains and Meeting Hosts in putting our 2005 program together.

Don't miss the fun. Fly safe and happy landings.

Dick Malone
