2005 programs announced at January meeting

Georgia Flyers 2005 season is now officially launched with our January kickoff meeting at the Petite Auberge Restaurant.  Over 55 Flyers attended with four visitors.

A tremendous thanks to Jim Turner for the great job he did in putting together a great Power Point Presentation of what to expect in 2005.  We heard from several trip captains and meeting hosts on the plans.  I can’t thank Carolyn Deering enough for working out the meeting hall and food logistics.

A great time and good food was enjoyed by all.  I was amazed that 30-45 minutes after the meeting a large number of our people were still talking and socializing.  One couple new to the group said everyone was so friendly, and it was just like family.  Well after over 26 years in this group, Katie and I have always thought of our relationship in this group as just like family.  I would like to commend all our members for opening up to our visitors, who all indicated they wanted to become a part of the Flyers.

Next Meeting – February 20 at EAA hangar, Gwinnett County Airport
Time: 3:00 pm
Menu: Pork and Beef BBQ
Cost: $15 per person

Those of us on the Executive Committee are looking forward to our February 20th Meeting where our own Pauline Mallary will be the featured speaker.  For those of you who have not spent some time with Pauline, or read her book you are in for a treat. This lady has been flying for over 50 years and has competed in 100’s of  Air Races with the famous 99er Ladies.  Many have been international races.  Pauline is one of those teenagers who became so enthusiastic about flying she obtained her flying license before she learned how to drive.  You will not want to miss this event.

March Meeting – March 19 Pinch Hitter Course

Don’t forget to sign up for the Co-Pilot Pinch hitter Course in March taught by Sam DiGiamarrino.  If you want to get some stick time afterwards, Sam will be delighted to work with you in either your aircraft or one of his trainers.  You will learn a lot about what is going on when you are riding with your spouse, and in an emergence how to safely get the aircraft safely on the ground.  This has been a very popular event in years past and we are so fortunate to have someone like Sam to present it again.

Other trips – Bahamas, Amelia Island, Gettysburg, Air Tour, Tullahoma.

Look over the schedule of events and hopefully you will find it an exciting year.  Be prepared to sign up for the upcoming trips to the Bahamas with Bob and Marsha Memorial Day.  Bob and Marsha always lead a great trip.  Paul and Sherri Platt are our trip Captains for a  great trip to Amelia Island in July.  Nolan and Nancy Hanson will host a trip to Historic Gettysburg in August.  Sam DiGiamarrino will lead us one the Great Southeastern Air Tour to Alabama this year.  You will not want to miss this great event.  In November Harold Bost our own former Bonanza Society President will lead a trip to Tullahoma TN Beechcraft Museum and the Jack Daniel Distillery Visit.

Annual Picnic - June

Carol Comer and Rick have agreed to open their hangar at Mallards Landing for another

Fly In Picnic In June.

Looks like a fun year to me.  Let’s all  support as many of the events and meetings as possible. I appreciate all the hard work of the Trip Captains, and Meeting Hosts in putting our 2005 program together.  It is a great way to really get to know each other.

Happy Landings:  Dick Malone, Chairman
