Chairman’s Brief: April, 2005

I would first like to thank Sam DiGiammarino, CFII for the very well attended co-pilot helper course at Epps PDK facility on March 19th. Several of our licensed pilots used the opportunity to refresh their aviation knowledge as they listened intently to an outstanding presentation. Several of his 11 non-pilot students have signed up to fly training missions for first hand experience on what they learned.

Thanks, Sam

This program supports several of the goals outlined in the Georgia Flyers Bylaws:

  1. Encourage the use of general aviation aircraft for pleasure as well as business.
  2. Foster interest in and enjoyment of flying by the spouses and families of pilot members.
  3. Promote safety in flying, and to improve its public image.
  4. Encourage improvement in flying skills by its members.

Sam's highly professional presentation and the serious interest by the students was a pleasure to observe.  I came away thinking Sam, as has Dave Barton many times in the past, accomplished exactly what this club was founded to promote.  I salute each of you for a job well done.

Participants received a certificate of completion, congratulations.

Folks, we are in for another aviation treat April 10th at Gwinnett EAA Hangar. Dick Lyon is bringing in another competitive racing pilot. Gilly Smith

will be our speaker and plans to bring his racing Schleicher ASW-27 Sail Plane for our closeup viewing. Gilly has a Commercial Pilot Rating with only ten hours of powered aircraft time. He has over 2400 hours in gliders soaring Internationally. We can expect a breathtaking French Alps slide show, and other soaring filmed experiences. I met Gilly this week and know you will find his presentation very entertaining. I found my experience in a Glider at Sugar Bush, Vermont to be one of the fields where he annually competes.

Linda Johnson and Dick Lyon have arranged a great buffet meal catered by "CELEBRATE THE OCCASION." Since it is catered your telephone ladies will need to know the number and who is to be fed not later than Tuesday Evening prior to the 3pm Sunday Meeting at LZU EAA Hangar. The buffet will be Roast Beef and Turkey with Cornbread Dressing, Italian Green beans with Honey Almonds, New Potatoes with butter and parsley, Broccoli Casserole, Salads with dressing choices, fruit salad, topped with Chocolate Cake, Peach Cobbler, Carmel Cake, Tea, rolls and butter. All for a very reasonable $18 each.

Be sure you come prepared to sign up for one or several of the exciting trips our Trip Captains have worked very hard for our pleasure. Remember Treasure Cay, Bahamas Memorial Day, Amelia Island in July, Gettysburg in August, Great Southeastern Alabama Air Tour in October, and Tullahoma, TN in November. Remember the way to really get to know each other is fly and socialize. Georgia Flyers are famous for both.

Keep up with all the Georgia Flyer events on www.georgiaflyers.org

Don't miss the fun. Fly safe and happy landings.
