President’s Letter

Meeting News.  Our kickoff meeting on January 27th was a rousing success.  We had over 50 in attendance including several members whom we had not seen in a while.  Jim Turner presented Ron Deering with a plaque for outstanding service over the last two years; Ron, in turn, presented plaques to the steering committee that has guided the club over the last couple of years as we've transitioned to new formats.  Ron now becomes co-chairman with Jim Turner; Keeley Miller remains in charge of membership; John Horton continues as our photographer and sometimes website guru; Katie Malone and her very cheery smile continues as our Sunshine Girl; and Carolyn Deering will head up our reinstated Call Girls.  Paul Gundermann will continue as treasurer.  As President, I see myself as the facilitator of YOUR club.  If you have ideas for social events, or flying destinations, please let me know.

Our next meeting will be Sunday, March 9th from 12:30 - 3:30 at The Elevation Chop House located at McCullum airport (KRYY).  Watch for more details in the March Newsletter.

The 2008 Calendar is now available on the website - click here for the complete calendar.  For information on events, click on the underlined names to contact the event chairperson.

Renewal Reminder.  If you have not yet renewed your membership, please forward your club renewals to Paul Gundermann.  Keeley mailed out forms in early December.  Any changes should be noted on the form and returned along with your check to Paul.   The renewal fee is $45.

Lunch-Bunch News.  10 people braved the cold and very marginal VFR weather to meet at Daniel Field in Augusta.  We had a great time though and enjoyed some outstanding BBQ.  I guess after a full year of cooperation from the weather gods, we were due for some not-so-great flying weather.

The next Lunch Bunch is scheduled for February 16th at 4A7 - Tara Field - for a tour of Atlanta Center and lunch with the Center controllers.  This will be a fly or drive event regardless of weather conditions.  Plan on arriving around 10:30 am - cost of lunch will be $15 / head for BBQ.  We must submit the names of all planning on attending ASAP so if you even THINK you want to attend, please email lunchbunch@platt.org  ASAP with your name as it appears on your drivers license.  It's easier to remove your name from the list if you cannot attend, then to add it at the last minute

Lunch Bunch plans are in place for 2008; reserve the 3rd Saturday each month to join us.  Watch for location announcements in future newsletters and emails.

I'm excited about our upcoming events - I hope you are too!  Please visit the photo gallery to see pictures from both the meeting and our most recent lunch bunch.
