Meeting News.
Our meeting at Elevation Chop House on March 8th was terrific. I think
everyone had a great meal and a good time socializing. Our next
meeting will be Sunday, May 18th at the EAA 690 hangar at LZU. Watch
for more details later.
Trip News. The gloomy weather certainly couldn't dampen
our fun on our Nashville trip a couple weeks ago. We had a total of 10
people; the Warrens made the long trek by auto. We had a fabulous
dinner at Caney Fork Fish Camp on Friday night. Saturday was filled
from breakfast through bedtime with a tour of Belle Meade Plantation.
We
learned that Belle Meade owned a stud named Bonny Scotland. You
probably haven't ever heard of Bonny Scotland but I guarantee you've heard
of some of his descendants - SeaBiscuit, Seattle Slew and Secretariat, just
to name a couple. We made a last minute change in plans and squeezed
in a visit to The Country Music Hall of Fame for a couple hours before
rushing along to Hermitage (Andrew Jackson's home) which still houses some
original artifacts from the Jacksons including the bathrobe that was thrown
across the chair the night Jackson died.
We
popped down the street for a quick buffet dinner at the Hermitage
Smorgasboard before heading off the the Grand Ole Opry.
John Horton managed to drop a few dollars for a genuwhine Stetson and
some custom fit new boots! Right about the time we left for the Opry,
the weather started a downpour. None of us had umbrellas and parking
was not condusive to staying dry. I think Vernon Lemmon is still
trying to dry out! I believe the Stetson was left in the car
during our mad dash.

We had the best time at the Grand Ole Opry. The show went on for 2 1/2
hours! We saw Vince Gill, Kellie Pickler, newcomer Phil Stacey, and
some old timers - Jimmy Dickens, Jean Shepard, Bill Anderson, Bobby Osborne
& The Rocky Top X-press, and the incomparable Charlie Daniels.
I highly recommend both the Country Music Hall of Fame and The Grand Ole
Opry as must sees if you are ever up Nashville way.
