Upcoming Events
Meeting News.
We are hard at work on plans for our next big member event; the annual
picnic. This year we will return to Mallards Landing
(GA04)
where member Rick
Januszewksi
will host the event on Saturday, June 20th. The picnic will start at 11:00
am. Please get that date on your calendars. The main dish (pulled pork and
BBQ ribs) will be supplied by the Flyers. Please bring your favorite salad,
side dish or dessert (and your appetite). This will be a great chance to
again visit with other Georgia Flyers while enjoying good food, hangar
flying, games and raffles. This will be a fly-in/drive-in event. Rick
will assist as the air boss with his trusty hand-held radio. During the
picnic we will also have a short business meeting to discuss future events
and trips.
CLICK HERE to RSVP or if unable, send
me an email at sherri@platt.org. PLEASE get your reservations in no later than
Wednesday, June 17th. Please help us out and RSVP early!
Directions to Mallards Landing:
Flying: Mallards Landing is a fly-in community designated GA04 at latitude N33-21-56 W84-09-54. It is 4000 ft
turf with right traffic rules for runway 25, and left traffic for runway 7.
The
field is private use turf, but is smooth and long. You can get
approval to fly in by including your aircraft ID when
you RSVP.
UNICOM is 122.9. “Air Boss” Rick will assist landing traffic
with taxi and parking instructions.
Driving:
- Take I-75 south out of Atlanta.
- Take exit 212 at Hampton and Locust Grove. This is the exit for the Tanger Mall. Turn right (west) at the bottom of the exit ramp.
- Proceed 2.3 miles and turn right into subdivision onto Mallard Lane.
- Continue on Mallard Lane about 1 mile until you dead end into the cul-de-sac. The picnic is at the brick house on the right.
For planning, the location is approximately 35 miles from downtown Atlanta.
We are also working on planning several other events for the remainder of
2009, including membership meetings, socials and trips. We will update the
website calendar when plans are complete. If you would like to host a
meeting, social, or a trip, please let me, Jim Turner or Ron Deering know.
For a meeting or social event, all that is required is selecting a
restaurant that will hold our group (20 - 25 people) and making a
reservation. For trips, if you are going somewhere and want some company, we
can open it up to any members who would like to go along. All of the
communications can be done by the committee.
